Where are the Birds? Diet Parable ...... by DianaDee Osborne

January 8
Added update on January 9th:   This morning for the first time, gorgeous song birds came to my feeders.  I wonder.... Did God delay them so that I would have this parable idea to help us grow in our faith through our journey dieting?   --ddo
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where are the BIRDS?   An odd question, perhaps, for a diet blog.  But perhaps important... I've checked the internet,  and this question is being asked in many places across the past 18 months.  I often take my Bible and journal to either a large lake or one of two rivers near me....
and the broad skies have been filled with billowing clouds, but no sailing birds.  The trees do not sing with bird song.
It's January and my usually-popular birdfeeders are fattening up the  few birds  who come.

Why are they disappearing?  Does some new southern place offer more warmth?
But the internet blogs comment that the birds are in fewer numbers there as well.

People are thinking -- perhaps we humans really did it this time.
We've polluted the waters and   killed   so many fish and other sea life.
The coral is   dying .
Invasive water plants like Hydrilla are multiplying in the waters whose alkaline level we changed with our trash.... At least "killer bees" haven't been in the news for awhile now....
but of course, there's fire ants.

What do MISSING BIRDSINVADING PLANTS  &  ANTS  have to do with dieting?

As God created each thing, He said "IT IS GOOD."
God created a perfect balance FOR all plants and animals, and within them.
We humans have fro the beginning been assigned by God to take care of them.
Ecologists soften see it as common sense only,
not a God assignment.  Whatever you believe, the evidence is this:
We've been doing a rather bum job.

We're also supposed to take care of our bodies --
our temples, God calls them in First Corinthians 6:19,
using the wording about Jesus's parable in John 2:21.

God gave us laws that we  ignore  nowadays --
Don't eat oysters or owls or mice or pigs
(The   mice    thing is pretty easy to obey.)
                                 That's Leviticus 11, by the way.  Verses 10, 16-8. 29, and 7.

Just in case that mouse tempts you,
God once again forbids you from eating it
through Isaiah 66:7.   (Don't you wonder why this required a second warning?
But then,    some (rare) people find chocolate to be disgusting.

Many of those laws have been found to be
for our good....
avoiding the parasites that some animal flesh bring,
avoiding killing off the birds like buzzards and hawks,
    and the shellfish
that God created to CLEAN the air and the waters.

AND THUS,     this   PARABLE  on "Where are the Birds ???":
God's dietary laws about fasting and
moderation in eating and drinking have proven to lead to longer lives.
A PONDERING:....
Fasting has been shown to give the intestinal track and organs a rest.
By ignoring God's dietary laws, including fasting,  including SABBATH REST,
are we increasing the likelihood of cancer
from foods sitting within our bodies longer
                   and missed rest time
for our muscles to re-build and our minds to re-lax?
The birds seem to be disappearing -- harmed?--  as we keep adding pesticides to get green grass and oversized fruit.  Are we causing our own harm -- disappearance from this life? --
by perpetually ignoring God's dietary laws
Even  though  not needed for salvation, would these be
the SALVE for our damaged bodies?

Intriguing scriptures from God:  Check out the word "BALM" (something that soothes and heals)    in God's Word.....                 Click  here  for scripture  links
Jeremiah 8:22
God speaking:  Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people?

GOD'S ENCOURAGEMENT
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct  your paths.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh,  And strength to your bones"     -- Proverbs 3:  5-8

PRAYER
LORD,  help me to understand what I need to do....
help me listen,  Lord,   to YOU.
